π .SXW data format can be identified as a word processing file, initially made up and opened by StarOffice Writer. Generally, StarOffice Writer is a plain text editor integrated into the StarOffice bundle as one of the internal components. In general, .SXW extension is supported by OpenOffice Writer, the following progany of StarOffice Writer and relies on OpenDocument XML data container. With technological advancement, the .SXW extension has been superseded by newer .ODT file structure, which is still used in the open source word processor until nowadays.
π The .SXW specification is compliant with multiple diverse apps and packages, mostly open-source and freeware. The .SXW files can be opened by 2 plain text editors, major leaders of the openly distributed initiatives - OpenOffice Writer and LibreOffice Writer. Both of the bundles can be easily downloaded from the official project web-pages on the uncommercial principle. Formerly OpenOffice has been shared as StarOffice, until the project absorption by Oracle enterprise. Later, in 2011 the copyright permission was handed over to Apache foundation, which still owns the product until now.
